A hunting dog must be registered with the AKC to participate in a hunt test (which verifies its lineage and pedigree) because the AKC sets the standardized rules and guidelines for the tests, ensuring a consistent evaluation of a dog's hunting abilities across different regions and competitions, allowing for a fair comparison between dogs based on an established criteria: essentially, it provides a recognized standard for judging a hunting dog's performance.
Multiple levels: hunt tests are usually divided into levels. Junior Hunters, Senior Hunter, Master Hunter, allowing dogs to progress through increasing difficulty as their abilities develop.
Breed specific requirements: AKC also takes into account breed characteristics when designing hunt tests, ensuring that each breed is evaluated based on its natural hunting abilities.

What does a flushing dog do?
With so many bird dogs, retrievers, and versatile dogs in the field, flushing dogs are sometimes overlooked.
Flushing dogs excel at finding birds and putting them in the air.
Flushing involves using noise, movement, or dogs to cause game to become nervous and leave cover.
Flushing breeds include: Springer spaniels, Cocker spaniels, and Boykin spaniels. Retrievers and some Labradors are now being used to flush game.
TCGDC are going to run practice days for flushing dogs. Focusing on a dog that can 'quarter' in range.
Finding birds, flushing birds, hunting style, shotgun range, retrieve and place command.
Pointing Breed Hunting tests are non-competitive pass/fail tests which assess each dog independently based attributes such as display of desire, boldness, independence, speed with a useful pattern of running across difficult or confusing scent patterns to pinpoint the location of birds. Other categories judges will score are; bird finding ability, pointing, trainability and in Senior and Master tests – Retrieving and Honoring. The teamwork between dog and handler is essential.
Participating in pointing breed hunt tests is a great way to let dogs experience what they were bred to do and enjoy what comes naturally.
TCGDC are going to run practice days for pointing dogs. Working on "quartering" pattern, searching for birds in a bird field, running in pairs, called braces. And running courses that are designed to mimic hunting conditions.
Working on: bird finding, pointing, trainability, retrieving, honoring and teamwork.
Have you been training your bird dog to retrieve?
Do you play fetch in the yard with your dog?
Have you been begging your dog to return a stolen shoe?
If you are interested in finding out more or would like to try it out, the Treasure Coast Gun Dog Club will be offering upcoming training days.

You might be interested in showing off your dog in a new fun sport called AKC Fetch. Click on link for more information on the AKC Family Dog Program.
AKC Fetch is a pass-fail noncompetitive test. The four levels of titles (Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, and Retriever) assess the ability of the dog to retrieve. In the Advanced and Retriever levels, the dog must respond correctly to signals. There is also a memory component in Advanced and Retriever because a retrieving bumper or ball is dropped (or thrown) behind a blind where it cannot be seen.
For each of the four titles, the dog must pass the test twice under two different approved AKC Fetch judges.
Dogs who are at least 6 months of age are eligible to take the AKC Fetch test as long as they are registered or enrolled with AKC and have an AKC, PAL, or AKC Canine Partners number.
